Rest, taken seriously.

Thirty-nine single-level rooms, a warm thermal pool, and a garden that breathes. Run by a young team who believe a good night's sleep is the most generous thing a town can give you.

The idea

A startup team with an old-fashioned promise: you arrive tired, you leave light.

Pure Motel began the way most good ideas do — with more conviction than capital, and a key we wanted to hand people ourselves. We are six people who still make the beds on Sunday. Our whole job is simple: heating on before you arrive, warm towels at the ready, a kettle already full.

Nothing clever. Nothing complicated. Just thirty-nine rooms done properly, on one level, set back from the road — because a motel should feel like arriving home, not like checking in.

“Heating was on before we arrived.”

The kettle was literally full, the towels were warm, and Vin waved us in from the rain like old friends. A model of how hospitality should feel.

“The Yurt is a genuine highlight.”

Skylight above the bath, underfloor heating, dead quiet. We've stayed in Rotorua ten times — nothing touches these rooms at this price.

Our story

A startup team with
a key we hand over ourselves.

Pure Motel began the way most good ideas do — with more conviction than capital, and a key we wanted to hand people ourselves. Two founders walked away from comfortable jobs for one belief: a place to stay should feel like arriving home, not checking in.

So the motel is single-level. Rooms face the garden, not the carpark. The heating is on before you arrive, the kettle is full, and the towels are warm. Six people, young and a little obsessive about the small things — because the small things are the whole job.

Today the register fills with families, road-trippers, honeymooners and locals who just need a night away. Same key, same pot of tea, same promise: you arrive tired, you leave light.

What we hold to

Four quiet rules.

01

Honest warmth

No scripted check-ins. If we say tea, there is tea.

02

Rooms you can hear yourself think

Quiet after 9 pm. It's a rule, not a request.

03

A garden, not a corridor

Every room opens to grass and birdsong.

04

The kettle is always full

Little things, done properly, every day.
